Big O Dodge Chrysler Jeep RAM attracts customers from a number of communities surrounding Greenville, SC, including the city of Mauldin in Greenville County.
Nearly 23,000 people live in the city of Mauldin, which experienced a 50-percent population boom between 2000 and 2010, making it the 15th-fastest growing city in South Carolina during that period and the 18th-largest city in the state. The city's close proximity to the headquarters of the BMW Manufacturing Company and Michelin North America is largely responsible for the boom, and new developments like Clemson University's International Center for Automotive Research, a new branch of Bon Secours St. Francis Health System, and the Millennium Campus hold the promise of the city's continued growth.
|It's a far cry from the city's humble beginnings. Benjamin Griffith was awarded the first land grant in what is now Mauldin in 1784. The area got its eventual name from former lieutenant governor W.L. Mauldin, who was instrumental in bringing a train station to the area in 1820. The station was called Mauldin in his honor, and over time the surrounding area also came to be known by this name. The city nearly ceased to exist in the years following the Civil War, as many of its citizens left to fight, and it wasn't until after World War II that the area again began to flourish, with the city being reincorporated as a town in 1960. |
Mauldin features a rich community life, evident in its annual festivals, various religious institutions and volunteer organizations. Mauldin boasts 35 acres of parks, and is in close proximity to a number of other outdoor activities, thanks in part to the nearby Blue Ridge Mountains.
